Kufra, 12 August:
A shooting took place in Kufra’s market square yesterday evening, wounding a young Tebu boy and breaching a peace . . .[restrict]agreement signed at the end of last month.
The injuries to the boy, Juma Mohammed Soha, are not believed to be life threatening.
The southern oasis town has been plagued by conflict between Tebu tribesman and members of the Arab Zway community in recent months, compounded at times by the presence of the army, whom Tebu leaders accuse of fighting on the Zway side.
In an effort to restore calm, a peace agreement was signed between the warring factions on 31 July. The shooting of Soha is the second time the agreement has been broken since then.
Under the agreement, anyone who breaches the peace in Kufra in such incidents should be handed over to the army. So far, the attacker, whose identity is not known, remains at large, threatening to further ignite tensions if he is not found and handed over shortly. [/restrict]
