Tripoli, 8 August:
Libya is the tenth biggest user of Facebook in the Arab World, and 95th globally, according to . . .[restrict]statistics from Socialbakers, the digital media analysis company. The total number of Libyans using the social networking site is 595,260, representing an increase of 167, 220 in the last six months. This ranking is fairly consistent with the country’s population, which is the world’s 103rd largest.
It is thought that 65 percent of Libya’s Facebook users are male. Unsurprisingly the large majority is fairly young: 80 percent are under the age of 34.
The continuing growth of social media in the country comes despite the fact that Libya is thought to have the slowest internet speeds in the world, as Libya Herald reported last month (http://www.libyaherald.com/?p=11144). [/restrict]
