According to the High National Elections Commission, over 220 foreign journalists have registered in the past week . . .[restrict]to cover the National Conference elections, at least 68 of them today. In addition, 584 Libyan journalists have registered.
Also registered are:
- 93 international observers (such as from the EU and the Carter Centre);
- 9,526 representatives from local NGOs and civil society organisations;
- 6,155 party and individual candidates’ agents;
- 225 foreign “guests”, mainly diplomats.
More foreign journalists are expected to register tomorrow and Thursday.
Registration means those can enter the polling stations and report on what is happening. Of the Libyans who have registered as media, observers and agents, 8,465 are men and 2,370 are women, according to the Commission. [/restrict]
