Foreign reporters flock to cover Libyan elections

Tripoli, 3 July:

According to the High National Elections Commission, over 220 foreign journalists have registered in the past week . . .[restrict]to cover the National Conference elections, at least 68 of them today.  In addition, 584 Libyan journalists have registered.

Also registered are:

  • 93 international observers (such as from the EU and the Carter Centre);
  • 9,526 representatives from local NGOs and civil society organisations;
  • 6,155 party and individual candidates’ agents;
  • 225 foreign “guests”, mainly diplomats.

More foreign journalists are expected to register tomorrow and Thursday.
