Tripoli, 3 May:
One hundred and twenty seven cases of HIV and hepatitis have been diagnosed among Arab and African workers in . . .[restrict]Jufra, according to Abdel-Hafiz Dafa, chairman of the Jufra area council’s registration and regulatory committee for Arab and foreign workers.
He said that the discovery was as a result of the decision to compile a registry and run medical tests on the workers. Altogether some 1,860 expatriates had been tested. Those infected were being dealt with by the appropriate authorities.
Dafa pointed out that the committee has been registering Arab and foreign workers for just two months. They are only registering those who are in Libya legally, with proper documents. He added that workers who pass the medical test are then provided with a registration cards to be able to conduct business and reside within Jufra area. [/restrict]
