Tripoli, April 2: Reports circulating in the media that the Belgian embassy in Tripoli had been attacked are untrue said to . . .[restrict]Belgian Ambassador Michael Ardui on Monday. It had been claimed that the embassy in the Andalous district had been fired at by a group of unidentified gunmen on Saturday.
According to the ambassador this seems to have been a deliberate act of misinformation.
There have been a number of similar such attempts in the past four months, all of which appear to aimed at causing maximum embarrassment to the TNC and the interim government. In this case, the report falsely claimed that the Libyan authorities had done nothing to protect the embassy and that it had been left to local people to do so.
The ambassador said he had notified the ministries of foreign affairs and the interior of the false claims.
