It is reported that following Misrata’s successful local elections on Monday, nearby Zliten will hold council elections on 20 March.
So far, . . .[restrict]other than Misrata, the only places to have held local elections are Zuara, the Tripoli suburb of Tajoura and Al-Abyar, east of Benghazi.
Meanwhile it has been proposed that, based on the 2006 census, Benghazi should be divided into 11 electoral districts for its municipal elections. These are to be held in April.
The eleven, proposed by Prof. Sulaiman Zubi, in charge of the city’s electoral commission, are:
- Central Benghazi and Sidi Hussein
- Al-Selmani Al-Gharbi and Ras Abaidah
- Al-Sabri and Sidi Abaid
- Al-Birka
- New Benghazi and Al-Hadaiq
- Al-Selmani Al-Sharqi and Al-Salawi
- Al-Uruba and Al-Mungar
- Al-Qish and Al-Fuwaihat
- Buatni, Al-Huwari and Gwarsha
- Gar Younis and Al-Magrun
- Benina, Al-Kuwafia and Tocra
Elections are also scheduled for Beida.
