Tripoli, 15 August 2014:
A delegation from the United Nations Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) arrived in Misrata yesterday to discuss . . .[restrict]with Misrata Municipal Council the current situation in Libya and the possibility of developing appropriate solutions to get out of this crisis and work to build constitutional institutions.
This visit comes after the failure of numerous domestic and international calls for an immediate ceasefire to the fighting taking place in the capital Tripoli. These calls have come from the Libyan Caretaker government, the Libyan Army Chief of Staff, Libya’s House of Representatives (HoR), the UN, the EU and the African Union.
The fighting which broke out a month ago, has caused the destruction of nearly all of Libya’s aircraft fleet, Tripoli’s International Airport, Tripoli’s main fuel depot, extensive destruction to Tripoli’s main Commercial wholesale market in Kremia as well as widespread indiscriminate bombing of residential areas across the city.
