The head of Benghazi’s Security Directorate, Colonel Salah Hwaidi, has ordered the arrest of a senior member of his staff.
Brigadier Salem Abdel-Hafiz Ghadir is accused of trying to stir up chaos in the city by spreading rumours about the security situation there.
One of the rumours was that Hwaidi had himself been sacked by Beida-based interim prime minister Abdullah Al-Thinni.
In a move to counter the allegations, the head of Thinni’s security office, Mahdi Labad, visited Hwaidi at his office in Benghazi this evening, assuring him of Thinni’s complete support for his efforts in provide security the city Benghazi.
There have been reports over the past couple of days of the Libyan National Army being concerned that some senior officers were undermining military control in the city.
