Key officials have gone on strike in response to the murder a senior member of the Civil Registry Authority, the organisation that manages the database of Libyan citizens.
Siddiq Al-Nahaisi died of his wounds after yesterday’s attack at the CRA’s Tripoli headquarters at Drebi.
Early reports said that Nahaisi, who was rushed to Zawiya Street hospital, was stable after the attack by three gunmen wearing army uniforms. These proved to be optimistic.
The CRA chief Mohamed Buker has since claimed that Nahaisi’s murder was part of a continued attempt by various powers to gain access to the CRA database.
After two of its people were kidnapped in Suq Al-Juma in August, the CRA suspended its operations citing repeated threats from organisations that did not welcome the precise tabulation of the country’s demographics.
The Presidency Council headed by Faiez Serraj said this evening that it was investigating Nahasi’s murder.
