London, 14 April 2016:

Deputy Prime Minister Musa Al-Koni met US Ambassador to Libya Peter Bodde and US Special Envoy Jonathan Winer in Tunis, today.

They discussed the arrival of the Presidential Council in Tripoli and their subsequent work in setting up a Government of National Accord (GNA) in Tripoli.

Both the US Ambassador and US Special Envoy expressed their encouragement by the GNA’s success so far in its discussions at key ministries and institutions to move ahead with a peaceful, orderly transition.

‘’The United States will work closely with the Government of National Accord as the only legitimate government in Libya, and will continue to provide full support for the efforts of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya and of the Special Representative of the UN Secretary General and will stand by the Government of National Accord’’, a US statement said.

‘’We welcome the courageous decision of many former GNC members to join the State Council and support the Government of National Accord, despite the efforts of some to cling to their privileged positions regardless of Libya’s needs’’, it added.

‘’We continue to condemn all efforts to undermine the political process, the Government of National Accord, and the implementation of the Libyan Political Agreement signed in Skhirat’’, the statement stressed.

‘’We encourage Libyans to continue to support the Government of National Accord, and we urge all Libyans to continue facilitating a peaceful handover of power so Libya’s new leaders can move forward effectively with the hard work of restoring stability to the country’’, the statement concluded.
