London, 11 April 2016:

Deputy House of Representatives (HoR) president Emhemed Shouaib has issued a statement today, a copy of . . .[restrict]which was received by Libya Herald, clarifying what was agreed upon at the recent Cairo meeting,

The meeting and its outcomes has led to much speculation by both conventional and social media – well beyond what was actually agreed to at the meeting. The Cairo meeting was seen as a timely and pivotal meeting needed to keep the Libyan Political Agreement (signed in Skhirat, Morocco in December 2015) on track.

This was especially so in view of the controversial meeting of the High State Council in Tripoli last week – seen by many as premature and unconstitutional.

Solution to Libya’s economic crisis is not through dinar devaluation but through economic reforms: 55 HoR members

‘’In view of what is being wrongly broadcast in some media and shared on social media regarding the meeting that took place in Cairo between House of Representatives (HoR) president Ageela Salah, Second Deputy president Hameed Homa and myself, I would like to clarify what was agreed upon and presented at the ensuing Cairo press conference’’.

‘’The HoR shall put forward an agenda to its members (next week) containing the following:

1-The proposed Ministers of the Presidency Council / GNA shall be put to a vote by the HoR.

2-To pass a constitutional amendment so that it is within the Transitional Constitutional Declaration of 2011.

3-The need for UNSMIL head (Martin Kobler) to call a meeting of the Libyan Dialogue Committee to discuss the recent events and claim that the High State Council was officially constituted which we consider constitutes a serious violation under article 64 of the Libyan Political Agreement.

4-To issue a statement denouncing the sanctions issued (by the EU) against the president of the HoR, Ageela Salah, and to demand and work on lifting it.

5-To call on the Presidency Council/GNA Cabinet to consult with the leadership of the HoR.

These are the only points agreed to at the Cairo agreement’’, Deputy HoR president Shouaib stressed. [/restrict]
