The Ras Jedir border crossing into Tunisia, which has been subject to frequent closures this year, . . .[restrict]reopened after last night after its latest shutdown.
The closure this time was for only a few hours. It was caused when protestors in Ben Guerdane blocked Libyan trucks because the Libyan border post was stopping Tunisian traders from going into Libya.
The Tunisian frontier town relies heavily on cross-border trade. Local smugglers are also suffering because of the anti-terrorist ditch and berm that Tunisia is building along the length of its border with Libya.
The protestors told a local radio station last night that they were lifting their blockade “on humanitarian grounds”. They added that they hoped that the Libyan authorities now understand their situation and would once again allow Tunisian traders to cross the frontier. [/restrict]
