Benghazi, 4 June 2015:
Despite random shelling and the risk from unexploded ordinance, workers in Benghazi have been clearing garbage, . . .[restrict]rubble and wreckage from the streets in a drive to give the city a face-lift before the start of Ramadan.
The efforts by two teams from Benghazi’s General Services company are all the more remarkable because most of the workers are reported to have been unpaid for the last seven months.
One team has been fixing damaged water mains and working on public open spaces, including cutting grass , tidying flower beds and watering trees and lawns that have been largely untended since last summer.
The areas where this work has begun include the Sidi Hussein district and nine separate gardens in and around hospitals and major intersections.
Meanwhile a second team is clearing away old barricades, burnt out cars and piles of rotting garbage in a number of locations including between the Leithi and Masakan crossroads.
