Tunis, 10 April 2015:

A new British ambassador to Libya has been announced by the Foreign Office in London. . . .[restrict]Peter Millett, who was ambassador to Jordan, is to take the post in succession to Michael Aron.

Millet is expected to start work in July and be based in Tunis, where most other embassies accredited to Libya are currently to be found.

“The presence of extremists and terrorists in Libya and the ongoing fighting means that an early political solution and a Government of National Unity is essential to mobilise all Libyans behind a common agenda,” Millett said following his appointment, adding that he hoped during his tenure, the British Embassy would return to Tripoli “and help to tackle the future rebuilding of the country”.
