Following the Libyan Supreme Court’s controversial decision to dissolve the House of Representatives, calling the . . .[restrict]25 June elections unconstitutional, the European Union has urged talks on all political groups.
“Libya needs more than ever a strong, steady and common political initiative” said EU High Representative Federica Mogherini, “The European Union continues to believe that dialogue, in whatever shape or form, remains crucial and that the solution of the crisis requires a political settlement,” .
Mogherini went on to say that the EU was in full support of the efforts of UN Special Envoy to Libya Bernadino Leon and that it was committed to work alongside the UN.
“It is essential that all parties cooperate with him (Leon) in finding urgent solutions to the increasingly dramatic situation Libya is facing today. All military operations must cease and all parties should refrain from taking any steps which further divide the country,” Mogherini urged.
She stressed that the EU remains committed to assist the Libyan people in finding political ways to solve the crisis and to ensure “unity, governability and institution building for a future of peace and stability for all Libyans”. [/restrict]
