Benghazi, 22 July 2014:
The Libyan Red Crescent has recovered the bodies of 14 . . .[restrict]dead, killed in clashes at the 319 camp in Benghazi.
The humanitarian organisation was given access to the camp in Benghazi’s Buatni district after the fighting which had raged there for over the past two days ceased. Because of the intensity of the fighting between Saiqa and its Salafist allies at the Camp against Ansar Al-Sharia in Buatni. Medical workers had not been given access to the site until this afternoon.
One of the dead has been identified as Mohamed Shwedi, who had been assigned to the base by the army. The others killed have not been named.
Sources inside the camp said Ansar Al-Sharia were able to steal large quantities of ammunition and weapons during their attack yesterday. Operation Dignity has pledged a strong reaction to the assault.
“Following the attacks and violence and the clashes in Benghazi we have decided to start a new phase of operations today,” the spokesman for Operation Dignity Mohammed Hejazi told the Libya Herald.
“We will attack from the sky the sea and the air,” he said and explained that Dignity forces would attack its enemies in their safe-houses. “We ask the Libyan people for their cooperation and ask them not to obstruct our forces as they carry out the mission,” he concluded.
