Tripoli, 15 May 2014:
A bomb detonated at the Ajdabiya courthouse just before dawn today. The front of the building cracked, three cars were destroyed and some nearby shops were hit by fragments from the explosion. However, no casualties were reported. No one knows who was responsible for the explosion.
“Unidentified people planted a bomb that exploded at dawn at the Ajdabiya Courthouse, causing minor damage to the front of the building and some harm to the building across the street,” Ajdabiya resident and civil society activist Abdulbaset Al-Nazal told the Libya Herald.
Security guards were inside the building at the moment of the blast. Fortunately, none was injured.
“An investigation has been launched to identify the perpetrators,” said Al-Nazal.
Separately, there was an incident of arson last night in the town. “Two cars were set on fire in Ajdabiya late yesterday night,” local resident Khaled Kouri told this paper.
The security situation has become fragile in the federalist stronghold of Ajdabiya. The eastern Libyan town saw violent clashes in March between the Cyrenaica Defense Force (CDF), commanded by Ibrahim Jadhran, and army units from Beida. [/restrict]
