The United Nations Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) has formally requested Tunisia to support its efforts promoting . . .[restrict]national dialogue between different political forces in Libya.
The country could benefit from the Tunisian experience, UNSMIL said, according to Libya Al Mostakbal newspaper.
Head of UNSMIL, Tarek Mitri, met with Tunisian President Moncef Marzouki in Tunis on Friday to discuss the latest developments in Libya, and the need to move quickly to override political conflicts that threaten to abort democratic transition.
Marzouki said Tunisia was interested in Libya’s transitional processes and wanted to see Libyans reach a political consensus that would contribute to its stability and progress. He expressed Tunisia’s willingness to contribute to the launch of national dialogue and consensus among all parties in Libya, to draw a roadmap that would move the country towards stability.
Mitri pointed to the historical, economic and security ties between Tunisia and Libya and the genuine desire of Tunisians to effectively contribute to Libya overcoming the difficulties faced in a transitional period.
Mitri also met with the head of the Islamist Ennahdha Party, Rached Ghannouchi, to congratulate him and the Tunisian people on the success of the national dialogue that has led to the adoption of a new constitution and the formation of a consensus government. [/restrict]
