Tripoli, 18 April:
German airline Lufthansa has announced that it . . .[restrict]will operate daily flights between Frankfurt and Tripoli of 22 April, Currently there are three a week. It says it is doing so because of “growing travel demand”.
“Within two months upon resumption of our operations in Libya, we are in a position to serve more passengers with our additional capacity complemented by our products onboard and on ground.”said Antonio Tassone, Lufthansa’s General Manager in Libya
Lufthansa flights are operated using an Airbus A320 aircraft in a two-class cabin configuration, Business and Economy.
In addition to Lufthansa, there are now ten foreign international airlines flying to Libya: Alitalia, Air Malta, Austrian Airlines, Egyptair, Etihad Airways, Qatar Airways, Royal Jordanian, Tunisair and Turkish Airlines. British Airways starts services between Tripoli and London on 1 May.
Libyan airlines are not flying to European destinations because of problems over the absence of aircraft certification during the Qaddafi era.
