Tripoli, 11 January 2014:

The Ministry of Youth and Sports has denied striking a deal with a Swedish football club to train . . .[restrict]young Libyan footballers, saying that it was just one proposal being considered.

A spokesperson for the Ministry said that a number of proposals for the training of 60 footballers were being considered, including one from Sweden, according to Libyan news agency LANA. The Ministry was preparing a document outlining the proposed training, 18 to 20 year-olds, to submit to the General Union of Libyan Football, he said.

The deal had been reported as being worth LD 92 million by the Swedish press and Reuters. However, the spokesperson said that early evaluations suggested that the initial cost of the proposed training, to cover study, clothing and health insurance, was around LD 3.6 million. [/restrict]
