Tripoli, 5 January 2014:
The Libyan football team has flown to South Africa to take part in the African Nations . . .[restrict]Championship (CHAN) which runs from 11 January to 1 February.
Libya is in Group 3, along with Ghana, Ethiopia and Congo. Its first match, on 11 January at Bloemfontein’s Free State Stadium, is against Ethiopia. The team plays Ghana on 17 January at the same stadium and then Congo on 21 January at Polokwane (formerly Pietersburg).
On Tuesday, the team will play a friendly match against Mozambique. It is the Mozambicans’ (known as the Mambas) CHAN debut.
The match is something of a return bout between the two. Just over two years ago, on 3 September 2011, Libya played Mozambique at the Petro Sport Stadium in Cairo in its first international game after the revolution. The Libyans, in the red back and green national colours that had not been worn since 1969, won 1-0. [/restrict]
