Misrata, 28 November 2013:
The Ministry of Economy has held a meeting in Misrata with the Ministry’s representatives in towns . . .[restrict]and cities across Libya to discuss the current economic problems facing the country.
Chaired by the Minister, Mustafa Abo Fanas, who appears to be now operating out of his home town having left Tripoli with his family last week after Misratan militias pulled out of the capital, the meeting also discussed implementation of a number of unspecified projects that would improve the country’s economy.
Yesterday Prime Minister Ali Zeidan said that months of oil strikes had plunged the country into a “financial crisis” and that Libya was now facing the prospect of borrowing money.
A number of topics were discussed at the meeting, including the launch of a fund for small and medium enterprises which is expected to begin shortly. Attendees also discussed communications and the flow of information between the representatives and the relevant departments of the Ministry, especially in relation to their quarterly reports, follow-up inspections and consumer protection.
The meeting was also attended by the Ministry’s financial advisor, Abdel Nasser Abu Ezkiah and head of the Misrata Local Council, Ismail Shakloun. [/restrict]
