Many cultural events planned for late November have been postponed, both in the . . .[restrict]capital and elsewhere in the country.
Tripoli’s Culture Office announced that forthcoming events, including Tripoli Poet’s Day and the capital’s Festival of Malouf (traditional Libyan music), had been postponed, as well as a number of art exhibitions. These events, the office said, would probably be rescheduled for early December.
The Arete Foundation for Arts and Culture has postponed a two-day open-air video show in and around Tripoli’s Old City, planned for the end of November. “It is a big event and we need people to come out and feel comfortable walking around,” one of the organisers told the Libya Herald. The event needed good weather, she added, so Arete was not sure when the event would take place.
After cancelling one screening on Saturday, the Arete Cinema Club is continuing its Thursday and Saturday film showings at Tripoli’s Art House as normal.
The Italian Cultural Institute and the Libya Board of Architecture have also postponed next weekend’s international two-day seminar entitled ‘Managing and Conserving Historic Cities in Libya’ until January 2014.
In the south of the country, the committee organising the forthcoming Sebha Cultural Days Festival announced that it had indefinitely postponed the celebrations out of respect, following the recent events in Tripoli. [/restrict]
