Tripoli, 20 November 2013:
The Formula Libya Fair for Cars and Spare Parts scheduled to take place in Miitiga International . . .[restrict]airport from 25 to 30 November has been cancelled because of the security crisis.
“The current security situation is worrying for the participants,” said Abdelfattah Sakher, manger of Sakher Expo for Fairs and Exhibitions which was organising the event.
He told the Libya Herald that this fair would have to wait till next year because of the situation.
Some 20 car and spare parts companies, including Ford, were due to participate in the fair, Sakher said, and there had been investment advertising in and around Tripoli over the last couple of months.
“It is not so much a loss for us as for our partners and the participants,” he declared. “We will hold it next year when the situation improves.”
A number of cultural events and fairs have been canceled following to last week’s Gharghour massacre which claimed the lives of 47 people and some 500 injured. The cancellations are as much a sign of solidarity with the victims and as part of a nationwide mourning period observed across Libya as a response to the security situation. [/restrict]
