Tripoli, 23 October:
Mystery surrounds the reported arrest of Mohamed Al-Maghrabi, the Ahly Tripoli football player who was shot . . .[restrict]in the arm last week.
After surgery to remove the bullet he flew to Tunisia for further treatment. But when he returned to Tripoli last night, he was seized at airport, a club official told the Libya Herald today.
“The situation is unclear,” said the official who asked not to be named.
Initially, he said, there had been conflicting reports as to what had happened to the player, with some saying that he had been kidnapped, others that he had been arrested as a suspect in the attack on the club’s Egyptian coach, Hossam Al-Badri, who left for Cairo after gunmen opened fire on his car on 12 October.
However, according to the Ahly official, the team was later informed that Maghrabi had been arrested by an SSC brigade. He did not explain why. He added that he thought that the player might now have been released.
Attempts this evening by the Libya Herald to contact the SSC to clarify the situation were unsuccessful. [/restrict]
