The Cyrenaica Political Bureau has reportedly denied that it had reached an agreement with the . . .[restrict]government to reopen the oil terminals in eastern Libya. A spokesman for the group, Osama Oraibi, is quoted by the Libya Channel news service as saying that the statement put out in the bureau’s name was fake. “The bureau did not negotiate with any state officials, whether from the government or from the Congress.”
The Political Bureau, headed by Ibrahim Jadhran, is the executive office of the self-proclaimed Cyrenaica Transitional Council. There were widespread reports over the weekend of the supposed agreement.
Meanwhile, Cyrenaica federalists have called for demonstrations in Benghazi and elsewhere in the region today, the 82nd anniversary of the hanging on Omar Mukhtar, to protest what they call the “rampant corruption in the body of the sagging state” and “the new dictatorship” which they claim includes the Dar Al Fatwa, the Muslim Brotherhood and the National Forces Alliance of Mahmoud Jibril, and against terror attacks and the lack of security in eastern Libya.
