Tripoli, 27 August 2013:

Around a thousand visitors a day have been visiting the Seventh International Shopping Fair which started . . .[restrict]on 15 August, according to the organisers. Based at the Tripoli International Fair ground it lasts until 31 August.

“This year’s fair is better than last year’s with a turnout of about 90 percent [of expected visitors] compared to 70 percent last year,” said Mohamed Abu Glelah, a member of the organising committee.

When Libya Herald visited, however, there were not many visitors to be seen and they may have been disappointed with what was on offer. The fair has around 25 exhibitors. Other than Libya, with a stand of its own, these are taken up by only five other countries – Pakistan, China, Philippines, Egypt and India. Morocco would have been at the fair but had to withdraw because of visa problems.

On show are clothes, shoes, leather products, tapestries, silver products, furniture, household accessories, marble and decorative items.

For one Chinese exhibitor selling decorative furnishings including mirrors the fair crowned a fruitful visit to Libya. There was great interest in his company’s goods in Misrata two weeks ago, he said.

Exhibiting there and hoping to be a success on the Libyan market for the first time is Indian skin care products company Sattvik Organics.  Its representative told the Libya Herald that its skin care products was enjoying success across the globe, and that it was now targeting Libya.

The fair runs daily from 10 am until 9 pm until Saturday. [/restrict]
