Prime Minister Ali Zeidan defended himself against accusations that he is “diplomatic” as opposed to being . . .[restrict]a “politician”.
Speaking at Sunday’s press conference, Zeidan said that he “was not a natural politician”. Furthermore, Zeidan explained that “Qaddafi prevented us from being politicians or from learning how to be politicians”.
“This is our culture”, he explained, “full of suspicion”, referring to the Libyan culture of distrust of politicians and the seeing of conspiracies everywhere. “Four decades taught us suspicion. It will take a generation or two to change things”, he explained.
“We must be patient”, he appealed, not for the first time to the Libyan public. “As the Quran has taught us, the use of the word (al kalima) is very important, he added, quoting the text. [/restrict]
