Tripoli, 4 May 2013:
The Military Integrity Commission has called on all military personnel to let it know about anyone in the . . .[restrict]armed forces who may have been involved in financial corruption. It also wants to verify officers’ and soldiers’ involvement in the 17 February Revolution. It has asked for documents, evidence and information to be sent to the Commission’s headquarters in the Tripoli district of Fornaj.
It also asks civilians who have any relevant information to contact it.
The Military Integrity Commission is independent of the Commission for Integrity and Patriotism (“the Integrity Commission”).
It was formed by a decision of the office of the Chief of Staff on 21 March this year and approved by the Defence Minister, Mohamed Barghati, a week later. Its role is to investigate whether present members of the armed forces were compromised by their involvement with the Qaddafi regime and therefore should be removed.
Its existence will reduce the work of the Integrity Commission which has made relatively few decisions about military personnel. The main one, in January, was the disbarment of the then head of the Libyan Air Force, General Adam Saqr Geroushi. [/restrict]
