Police are still searching for the remaining 160 illegal immigrants who overpowered guards and escaped from . . .[restrict]Abushada prison in Ghariyan on Wednesday night at the height of the ghibli storm.
Ghariyan council spokesman Adel Ben Naji told the Libya Herald that the African detainees had overpowered the five guards, wounding three of them. The guards had fired toward the escapees, wounding a number, but the majority of the men had escaped. The injured detainees were taken to Ghariyan hospital for treatment.
Ben Naji complained that the prison was poorly-equipped and insufficiently staffed to cope with a population of around 500 detainees from countries all over Africa.
