Tripoli, 27 March, 2013:

The Prime Minister Ali Zeidan met today, Wednesday, with a number of Qatari leaders to look at ways . . .[restrict]of bolstering relations as well as to discuss regional developments and the situation in Libya.

The Qatar news agency QNA, reported that he had met with Qatar’s heir apparent, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, its Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jaber Al-Thani, and a number of other Qatari officials.

He also had talks with Egypt’s President Mohamed Morsi on the problems of Egyptian workers living in Libya and opportunities for Egyptian companies in the country’ reconstruction. Morsi also raised the possibility of Egypt importing yet more oil from Libya.

Libya has already agreed to provide Egypt with extra oil supplies. It was reported on Sunday that it had agreed to provide the neighbour with one million barrels of oil a month to refine in Egypt. The oil minister, Abdulbari Al-Arousi said that the move was to help support the fraught Egyptian economy. Egypt’s oil minister, Osama Kamal, was quoted today in the Egyptian press today as saying that the figure was 900,000 barrels a month and that the first supplies would arrive next month.

However, while in Doha, Zeidan also said that the reported plan to deposit $2 billion in Egypt’s central bank was still under discussion.

“This issue has not been decided yet,” he said.

Libya is nonetheless looking at the possibility of investing in the  Egyptian economy according Libyan officials in Doha.

While Doha, Zeidan also had talks with Kuwait’s ruler, Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah. [/restrict]
