Tripoli, 8 December:
Eight Libyans accused of fighting for the Qaddafi regime during last year’s revolution have been spared imprisonment by the . . .[restrict]criminal court in Zawia, whilst another two have been acquitted altogether.
The eight were each handed a one-year suspended sentence on Thursday by Judge Masoud Issa Aezzabi.
It is worthy of note, however, that the Supreme Court recently issued a decree stating that any person who carried weapons or volunteered for the former regime during the revolution would be sentenced to between six months and one-and-a-half years’ imprisonment, in addition to any other charges.
