The Libyan Development and Reconstruction Fund announced yesterday that it signed three contracts with Italian company GKSD in the health sector.

The signing took place in Benghazi where Belgasem Khalifa Haftar, Director General of the Fund, received a high-level Italian delegation that included the Deputy Foreign Minister of Italy, the Italian Ambassador, the Consul General of the Italian Consulate in Benghazi, and Kamal Al-Ghribi, Chairman of GKSD Group.

Kamal Al-Ghribi and GKSD
GKSD, a comprehensive project consultancy and management group, says it has Euro 2.7 billion annual revenues, 34,000 staff and projects in 12 countries.

Ghribi is a prominent Tunisian-born entrepreneur and philanthropist known for his work in transforming the healthcare landscape in the Middle East and Africa through strategic investments and innovative solutions.

Ghribi is President of GKSD Investment Holding. He founded the company in Switzerland in 2015, to become a multidisciplinary group focusing on healthcare, engineering & construction, project monitoring, sustainable energy, and various advisory services.

He is also Vice President of Gruppo San Donato (GSD). GSD is the largest private hospital group in Italy, specializing in acute care, medical education, and research. Ghribi’s leadership has been credited with being instrumental in the group’s international expansion.

Strategic projects
During the meeting, a package of strategic projects planned for implementation in cooperation with the GKSD were discussed. The meeting was attended by Hatem Al-Oraibi, Director of the Fund’s Projects Department; the Director General of Benghazi Medical Centre; the Director General of the National Cancer Centre; the Director General of the Children’s Hospital for Paediatric Medicine and Surgery; several department heads from the Fund; and several specialized engineers.

Following the meeting, three contracts were signed:

• A contract for the operation and management of the National Cancer Centre in Benghazi.

• A contract for the comprehensive maintenance, operation, and management of Benghazi Medical Centre.

• A contract for the construction and operation of two waste recycling and electricity generation plants in Benghazi.

The Fund said this step comes within the framework of supporting international partnerships, enhancing the efficiency of the health sector, and developing infrastructure projects and vital services, which contributes to raising the level of services provided to citizens and driving sustainable development in the city of Benghazi.
