The Tripoli based 444 Combat Brigade, part of the western based Libyan Army, reported last Tuesday (30 September) that a detachment south of Gharian, in cooperation with the Gharian Anti-Smuggling and Narcotics Department, seized a fuel shipment intended for smuggling.
It reported that the operation followed meticulous monitoring and tracking. The driver was arrested while driving a 40,000-liter fuel tanker, which he intended to smuggle after attempting to disguise his intention by claiming to unload the cargo at a gas station.
The accused was referred to the Gharyan Partial Anti-Corruption Prosecution to initiate investigations and complete the relevant legal procedures.
The 444 Combat Brigade said the operation comes as part of efforts to protect the nation’s resources and combat smuggling operations.
