European Council President, Charles Michel, received at the European Union headquarters, the Tripoli based Libyan Prime Minister, Abd Alhamid Aldabaiba and his accompanying delegation yesterday.

The Tripoli based Libyan government said the two sides held a meeting to discuss several political, economic and security issues.

It reported that Michel affirmed the European Union’s support for the efforts of the United Nations mission to hold fair and impartial elections.

Lifting the EU flight ban
During the meeting, the results of the technical committees formed by the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and the Libyan Civil Aviation Authority were followed up and worked on completing them to lift the ban on European airspace. This step, the Libyan government said will contribute to stability and development and support all areas of cooperation between Libya and the European Union.

Strong economic partnership
During the meeting, Aldabaiba stressed the need to build a strong economic partnership with the European Union and its member states to be a nucleus for stability and investment in Libya. He called for a focus on the basic files between Libya and the European Union, the most important of which are addressing the air embargo on Libyan flights, irregular migration, and cooperation in the field of alternative energy production and supplies.
