The General Union of Libyan Chambers of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture, headed by its president Mohamed Raied, hosted a meeting Monday of the Libyan-Italian Chamber of Commerce with the participation of the Italian Ambassador to Libya, Giuseppe Buccino, and in the presence of the Economic Advisor of the Embassy, Giacomo Grandesso, the newly elected President of the Italian-Libyan Chamber of Commerce, Nicola Colicchi, members of the Joint Chamber on the Libyan side, headed by the Chairman of the Tripoli Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture and a member of the Joint Chamber, Anwar Abu Sitta, and several representatives of companies and businessmen.

Seeking to further activate relations
The Union of Chambers reported that the meeting discussed the course of action to further activate the Chamber, with Raied stressing that the Libyan-Italian Chamber is hoped to play a greater role in expanding Libya’s economic cooperation with Italy. He emphasised that Italy – as a neighbouring country – is an important trading partner for Libya and expressed the readiness of the Union of Chambers to support the Libyan-Italian Chamber, and to provide all facilities to allow it to carry out its tasks.

The President of the General Federation also thanked the Ambassador for his presence and appreciated his constant support for the efforts of the Libyan Italian Chamber.

Recent activation of cooperation
The General Union of Chambers noted that, together with the Libyan-Italian Chamber of Commerce, that recently work had been done to activate Libya and Italy’s economic cooperation. This included the holding of a set of bilateral meetings, and the holding of an exhibition for agents of Italian industries in Libya, in which many merchants, companies and businessmen from the two countries participated.

The General Union reported that this had been a fruitful opportunity to network and expand prospects for economic cooperation.
