GIZ Libya reported yesterday that last week, the Libyan Minster of Local Government, Bader Aldeen Al-Tumi, visited Berlin with a high-ranking delegation in order to strengthen and consolidate German-Libyan cooperation.

The delegation included the Libyan Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Omar Keti, the Prime Minister’s Advisor for Renewable Energy, the Head of the Renewable Energy Authority, the CEO of the General Electric Company of Libya, mayors from across Libya and executive officials from the Ministry of Local Government.

The delegation had several official and technical meetings with counterparts of German federal ministries and institutions including the German Federal Foreign Office, the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection, the German parliament ‘Bundestag’ and the federal council of the German states ‘Bundesrat’.

The delegation discussed the ongoing projects of German development cooperation and the achievements in the fields of decentralisation, good local governance, women empowerment, economic promotion, renewable energy, energy efficiency and other priorities of mutual interest with their counterparts. The delegation also explored options for further strengthening their strategic cooperation including the support of Germany to the peace and stabilisation process in Libya.

‘We had a very fruitful exchange,’ said Manfred Horr, the Regional Director of GIZ Libya and Tunisia, at the end of the visit which was organised by GIZ. ‘All projects we implement on behalf of the German Government and the European Union in Libya contribute to more peaceful communities in the country. Promoting the exchange of our Libyan partners with the German Government and state institutions will give our partnership for a peaceful development of Libya a new momentum.’
