The Renewable Energies Authority of Libya (REAoL) announced Sunday that it had handed over on Saturday the worksite to the German GTG Holding Company consortium and the German Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems for the Tawergha solar project.

The pilot project will have an installed peak capacity of one MW and ‘‘implementation will start soon’’, it added.

REAoL said the project will be the first of its kind in terms of installed capacity and serve as a model station for studies and research.

The project comes within the framework of the existing cooperation German institutions and companies operating in this field, REAoL added.

Pilot project to help in training
The pilot station will allow all engineers, researchers, and students to conduct research and tests, especially with regard to studies of the impact of connecting such a type of station to the public electricity network, it explained.

It said the implementation of this project also comes as a proactive step to train engineers and technicians on how to deal with these technologies and to test this technology in local conditions before starting the implementation of the projects that were contracted to be implemented recently.

Part of REAoL’s wider strategic plan
REAoL said this project comes within its wider framework of implementing its strategic plan prepared to exploit the available sources of clean energies. This includes the implementation of many electric power generation stations with large capacities connected to the public electricity network in various regions of Libya using different technologies, including photovoltaic technology.
