The EU for the Private Sector in Libya (EU4PSL) publishes summary of achievements since 2019

In its January 2023 newsletter, the European Union for the Private Sector in Libya programme (EU4PSL), funded by the EU and implemented by Expertise France, published a summary ‘‘in numbers’’ of its achievements since 2019:

  • 2 online platforms to facilitate business creation and investment in Libya: Ejraat and Euromed Trade Helpdesk.
  • 1 publication on the profiles of Libyan enterprises and their needs for business knowledge and support services.
  • 1 White Book listing top common reform priorities identified by Libyan enterprises with proposals for improvement.
  • 1 economic and investment matrix to analyse the challenges facing the private sector in Libya.
  • €120,000  grants were given to 36 women entrepreneurs through Raedat show. 90+ jobs were created.
  • 360 students were trained, 18 Training BootCamp were implemented, and 3 National student contests were held as part of the Entrepreneurs of the Future programme.
  • 19 start-ups were trained from 6 cities, €153,000 grants were given, and 84.6 % of the start-ups reported an increase in their revenue through their participation in the “Boost it” business acceleration programme.
  • 6 Libyan commercial banks established SME-dedicated units.
  • 1 venture capital fund established in cooperation with Tadawul Financial Group.
  • 2 circulars were published by CBL to support micro and small enterprises.
  • 11 universities are now teaching the newly developed Entrepreneurship course to more than 200 students.
  • 8 Junior Enterprises were established in Libyan universities.
  • 44 professors were trained in teaching the entrepreneurship course, and 26 university staff were trained on the management of the Entrepreneurship and Innovation centres.
  • 2 decrees were published by the Ministry of Higher Education on creating and regulating the work of the Entrepreneurship and Innovations Centres in Libyan universities.
  • There are now 13,990 users of the online business school: Libus
