At its session held in Benghazi yesterday, parliament, the House of Representatives (HoR), agreed on nine issues the most prominent of which was the appointment of Abdalla Aburezeza as head of the Supreme Court. Aburezeza was nominated by the General Assembly of the Court and, according to the HoR, was approved by the High State Council.

Here are the nine issues that the HoR agreed upon yesterday:

  • Unanimously voted to assign Abdalla Aburezeza as head of the Supreme Court.

  • Exempted HoR members who hold positions in the state from membership in the HoR.

  • To refer the draft law of the Constitutional Court to the Legislative Committee and circulate it to members for review and presentation during the upcoming sessions.

  • Assigning a committee of experts to prepare a plan for distributing oil and gas revenues and finding a fair mechanism to benefit from it for all Libyans.

  • Obligating the head of HoR-recognized government (Fathi Bashagha) to start the government’s work immediately and summoning him to present the government’s findings and the obstacles it faces in order to contribute to overcoming them.

  • Announcing the heads of the bodies affiliated to the House of Representatives (sovereign positions) who did not comply with the decisions of the House of Representatives and did not submit their periodic reports to the House that they have no legal status, and to demand the High State Council to expedite the response to the House of Representatives to nominate the heads of these bodies to fight corruption and hold the negligent to account.
