Pro Aldabaiba and pro Bashagha militias clash in Wirshafana area

There were militia clashes in the Wirshafana area of greater Tripoli late last night. The clashes were between pro Aldabaiba and pro Bashagha militias – the two contenders for the post of prime minister.

Early reports say the clashes started with an attack by the 55th Infantry Brigade (led by Muammar Al-Dhawi), which supports Fathi Bashagha, on the headquarters of the 3rd Infantry Company (Ramzi Al-Lifa`), which supports the Tripoli based and incumbent caretaker PM Abd Alhamid Aldabaiba.

Pro Bashagha reinforcements from the city of Zawiya’s Ali Bouzriba in support of Al-Dhawi also took part, unconfirmed early reports say.

The clashes are seen as an extension of the Tripoli militia clashes over the right to be prime minister between Aldabaiba and Bashagha.
