The General Electricity Company of Libya (GECOL) announced today that its board had yesterday appointed Abdul Hamid Ali Al-Manfoukh as its new permanent General Manager.
Manfoukh, it added, began his duties this morning and held an extensive meeting with the directors of the company’s general departments in order to discuss and follow up on many topics, most notably the status of the public electrical network.
Manfoukh takes over from Mohamed (Ben) Ismail
Manfoukh takes over from Mohamed (Ben) Ismail who was appointed GM on a temporary basis by caretaker prime minister Abd Alhamid Aldabaiba on 26 June after the sacking of the previous GECOL board and its chairman Wiam Al-Abdali.

The new GECOL board and its chairman, Mohamed Omar Hassan Al-Mashay, resumed their duties in their new roles on 24 July.
Lengthy power cuts lead to demonstrations and sackings
The sacking came on the back of lengthy power cuts this summer – cuts that Aldabaiba had promised would not happen. The acute power cuts had led to violent demonstrations that had threatened to bring down the Aldabaiba administration.
