Prime minister Aldabaiba conducts early overview of his term in office in televised speech

London, 5 April 2021:

In a televised address to the nation last night, Libyan prime minister Abd Alhamid Aldabaiba, celebrated the arrival in the morning of the first batch of the anti-Coronavirus vaccines.

One million more vaccines to arrive by 11 April

He revealed that the batches will arrive in succession according to a prepared programme, and that the second batch will arrive on Wednesday consisting of 300 to 400,000 doses.

Cold storage problems

Further, he announced that by next Sunday (11 April), one million additional vaccine doses will arrive. He also revealed that the government faced great difficulties in providing storage places for the vaccine in accordance with international storage standards.

Aldabaiba indicated that preparation has been made to receive any quantity that will reach Libya, adding that the process of bringing the vaccine was carried out according to specialized committees and studies that have proven the success and effectiveness of these vaccines at a rate ranging between 90 to 96%.

Libyans and foreigners will receive vaccine

The prime minister revealed that the distribution of the vaccine will include all residents, citizens and foreigners, explaining that a study of the distribution mechanism has been carried out with the Ministry of Health.

The Prime Minister asked everyone to cooperate in receiving this vaccine to mitigate this pandemic.

Stable prices in Ramadan

The PM touched on the onset of the fasting month of Ramadan and its consequences for the rise in commodity prices, especially foodstuffs, noting that his government had taken a number of measures to provide goods despite the 2021 state budget not yet being approved.

Call on parliament to pass 2021 budget

He called on the parliament (House of Representatives) and the High State Council to quickly approve the budget.

Salaries to be paid on time

Aldabaiba also revealed that an agreement had been concluded with the Central Bank of Libya regarding the disbursement of salaries in an orderly manner at the beginning of each month, starting from the current month of April.

Payments to lower paid

The PM referred to his government taking a set of measures that would alleviate the suffering of some segments of society under the umbrella of social solidarity, in addition to the Wife and Children Grant, taking into account the payment of the late dues since the issuance of the previously inactivated law.

Oil production at 1.3 million barrels per day

Aldabaiba also revealed that oil production has reached one 1.3 million barrels per day, considering this an indication that the situation in the country is improving, and promising that this year will be a good year for Libyans.

Unification of institutions

Regarding the unification of state institutions, the PM announced that the government is continuing to unify institutions at an accelerated pace, in an effort to build and unify and meet the demands of the Libyan people who are hungry to unify these institutions.

Visits to cities and regions

On his visit to some cities, Aldabaiba explained that his visit to Tawergha and Tarhuna comes within the framework of closely examining the conditions that these two cities are suffering from, pointing to the importance of reparation for these two cities and other Libyan cities. He also revealed upcoming visits to Benghazi, Murzuq, south Tripoli, Derna, Sirte, and other cities that have suffered from the ravages of wars, and which need support, including supporting those adversely affected and the families of the martyrs.

24 December elections

The PM concluded his speech by emphasizing the endeavour to hold the 24 December 2021 elections.
