The university in Bani Walid has suspended all classes until further notice after an assault on a member of staff together with the vandalising of college buildings.
An unidentified group attacked the academic, smashed up equipment including electronic devices and threatened students studying. The attack occurred in the economics and politics faculty, a statement by the university’s administration said today.
The academic, Dr Al-Sharf Umbiya, was taken to hospital following the beatings, though his condition is understood not to be serious. On Wednesday, a march in solidarity with Umbiya is be held at the university.
This morning, senior members of the institution held a meeting to discuss what they should do following the assault. At the time, classes had already suspended classes for the day.
