The Central Bank of Libya’s (CBL) official social media site announced today that the new Interim CBL Governor, Fawzi Abu Khazam, held a meeting today, with the Minister of Finance, Rashid Abughafah, and the Chairman of the National Oil Corporation (NOC), Masoud Suleiman.
The meeting further signals the recognition of the new Interim CBL Governor by the Tripoli authorities after the Governor’s controversial and forceful installation in his position and the ousting of the outgoing Governor, Naji Issa.
The CBL reported that the meeting focused on ways to strengthen coordination and cooperation among the three institutions, with the aim of supporting the state’s financial and economic stability.
The discussions addressed the importance of unifying efforts and coordinating procedures between the CBL, the Ministry of Finance, and the NOC—all of which are pivotal institutions in managing the state’s financial and economic resources. The goal is to ensure the integration of roles and responsibilities, in accordance with the mandates assigned to each institution.
The Governor of the CBL affirmed the Bank’s readiness to provide the necessary support to the NOC—within the scope of its legal mandate, existing legislation, and available resources—to enable it to carry out its duties, maintain the sustainability of its operations, and continue its vital role in supporting the national economy.
Furthermore, the meeting emphasized the importance of reaching a consensus on joint operational procedures and mechanisms, as well as strengthening direct communication channels and information exchange among the three institutions. This is intended to help overcome challenges, streamline relevant processes, and enhance the efficiency of the management of the state’s financial resources.
