According to the Central Bank of Libya’s (CBL) official media page, the CBL Board of Directors held a meeting today.

During this meeting, the statement claims:

·       The CBL Board of Directors confirmed that the new Governor, Fawzi Abu Khazam, has officially assumed his duties, in accordance with the decision of the Presidency of the House of Representatives No. (5) of 2026.

·       The Board has also decided to reconstitute the Monetary Policy Committee—based on criteria of competence and independence—to ensure the regularity of its meetings and the transparency of its decisions.

·       Furthermore, the Board has approved the establishment of specialized committees for governance, audit and risk, and appointments.

No photograph of the claimed Board meeting
It must be noted that the CBL Media Department, very unusually, did not publish a photograph of the CBL Board meeting – as it would usually do.

This contrasts with the fact that it published a photograph of the CBL Governor’s meeting with his heads of departments on the same day.

Some critics have, therefore, questioned if there was a quorum of Board members at the alleged meeting – and the ramifications that may have on the legality of the Board meeting’s above-mentioned decisions.

Some analysts are referring to the Board meeting as an ''unofficial'' or ''consultation'' meeting of CBL Board members.
