Tripoli’s Mitiga International Airport received an Air Algérie flight today arriving from Houari Boumediene International Airport in Algiers, marking the resumption of direct flights between the two countries after a suspension lasting more than twelve years.
The flight was welcomed by the Minister of Transport, Mohamed Al-Shahoubi; the Algerian Minister in charge of the transport sector; the Deputy Minister of Transport for Air Transport Affairs; the Assistant Head of the Airports Authority; the Assistant Head of the Civil Aviation Authority; the Libyan Ambassador to Algeria; the Algerian Ambassador to Libya; as well as advisors from Air Algérie, the Director of Mitiga International Airport, directors of technical departments, the port/airport facility manager, and representatives from relevant authorities.
Two weekly round-trip flights—scheduled for Wednesdays and Fridays—will operate between Houari Boumediene International Airport and Mitiga International Airport, utilizing Boeing 737-800 aircraft.
The Transport Ministry said the resumption of these flights is part of the Tripoli Government’s efforts to strengthen cooperation with Algeria and to solidify the historical and fraternal bonds between the two brotherly peoples.
It added that this initiative aims to facilitate passenger travel, provide additional options for air cargo, and support economic and commercial exchange between the two nations.
