US Attorney General Pam Bondi revealed the arrest of Libyan Zubayr al-Bakoush, suspected of carrying out the attack on the US consulate in Benghazi in 2012 and the killing of former US Ambassador Chris Stevens.

As video of a handcuffed Bakoush emerged being led out of a plane in the US, Bondi confirmed that he was transferred to the United States to face charges of murder, arson, and terrorism.

Bakoush was a member of the Islamist Benghazi Shura Council (BSC). The BSC fought a long and bloody battle with Khalifa Hafter during Libya’s civil war. They were eventually ousted from eastern Libya by Hafter. They fled to hide in Misrata and Tripoli.

‎Commenting on its X account, the White House said ‘‘A suspect in the 2012 Benghazi attack that killed four Americans has been brought to the U.S. to face charges.

Zubayr al-Bakoush will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

Let this be clear: if you commit a crime against the American people, the Trump Admin will find you, & justice will be served’’.
