The Attorney General’s Office reported yesterday that the Criminal Court issued a verdict convicting a former Assistant to the Treasury Manager at the Shahat branch of the National Commercial Bank, and a former head of the Current Accounts Department at the same branch.
The Public Prosecutor’s Office brought charges against the two defendants for embezzling public funds using forged bank cheques. The Beida Court of Appeal, in its final session, convicted them both.
The first defendant was sentenced to eight years in prison, fined 3,000 dinars, and ordered to pay 4.3 million dinars in compensation for the damages inflicted on public funds. The second defendant was sentenced to four years in prison and fined 231,000 dinars. Both defendants were also deprived of their civil rights for the duration of their sentences and for one year following their release.
