The Attorney General’s Office reported yesterday that the Tripoli Court of Appeal (Criminal Court) issued a ruling convicting 11 employees of the National Commercial Bank’s branch office (Tripoli Central Hospital) for embezzling 29 million dinars from the general account for certified checks at the bank’s branch office.

The court convicted all defendants. The first and second defendants were sentenced to 13 years in prison with permanent deprivation of their civil rights and legal incapacity. The third, fourth, and fifth defendants were sentenced to 8 years in prison with deprivation of their civil rights for the duration of the sentence and a year thereafter. The seventh, eighth, ninth, and eleventh defendants were sentenced to 4 years in prison. The tenth defendant was sentenced to 2 years in prison. The sixth defendant was sentenced to one year in prison with the sentence suspended.

The court ordered all defendants, except the sixth, to repay 29 million dinars and to pay a fine of 58 million dinars.

The court also ruled against the first defendant to confiscate real estate assets consisting of: a building in the Dahra area; an apartment in the Abu Huraida area; a plot of land in the Hay Al-Andalus area; and a plot of land in the Gurji area.
